Our History and Mission Haitian-American Organization for Women, Inc. (HOW) is a non-profit based organization (CBO) founded in 1989. Initially, its mission was to assist Haitian refugees in their journey towards successful adaptation in South Florida. Today, HOW is committed to providing high quality, relevant and caring social services to children and families of any race and ethnicity. We promote women’s potential for growth, individuality, and self-realization within their personal, cultural and social spectrum. We embrace and support the woman as the center of the family.
Education is our foundation and different programs/activities are designed to empower the individual.
Social Services are provided to assist families facing difficulties in coping with their economic, social and cultural challenges. Culture and Arts are also an important component of our mission as it defines the Haitian-American identity thus facilitating integration into the new society.
